Kathy's four main passions in life were her faith, her family, her love for animals, and her quest for things that made her laugh. She will long be remembered for her melodious giggle that was frequently heard throughout the house. She kept her incredible sense of humor, even when experiencing what appeared to others as unbearable trials. She was able to see the good in every situation.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kathy had a strong testimony of the gospel and an intimate relationship with her Savior. She never doubted God's plan for her life. Upon learning of her terminal health condition, she rejoiced in knowing that she was leaving this world for a better one and that she would soon be reunited with those she loved so dearly on the other side.
Kathy's death was preceded by that of her parents, Richard and Pauline Kitzler, as well as siblings Benjamin Kitzler, Sean O'Dell, Erin O'Dell, brother-in-law, Tom (Kelly) Myers, and sister-in-law, Sue (Kevin) Kitzler. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Smith, daughters Shelly Johnson, Lori (Robert) Kosch, Jenny Smith, Becky (Bon) Carter, siblings Helen Thompson, Kelly Myers, Kevin (Debbie) O'Dell, Kevin Kitzler, Esther (Gary) Matthews, grandchildren Jacob Kosch, Isaac Kosch, Reagan Carter, Ryan Carter, Ty Carter, and Evan Carter as well as an abundance of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
We hope all will join us in celebrating Kathy's life at a memorial service to be held on her birthday, May 1st (location and time to be announced). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to the Hancock County Humane Society.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
