Mary was born about 1752 in the Province of Massachusetts Bay, New England. She was a daughter of Amos Farnsworth Sr and Lydia Longley, natives of the Province of Massachusetts Bay.

Mary was the second wife of Joseph Potter 2nd. His first wife, Zedubah Hayden, had died 24 Jan 1767 and, in 1770, the widower Joseph immigrated to Nova Scotia, where he settled in Clements Township, Annapolis County. Mary Farnsworth and Joseph Potter 2nd were married about 1772 in Clements Township. They had ten children, all born in Clements Township:

1. Joseph Potter 3rd (b. 14 Jun 1773 - d. 26 Aug 1848) - m. Olive Balcom and Lois Hayden
2.Samuel Potter (b. 9 Dec 1774 - d. unknown) - m. a Miss Chute
3.Sarah Potter (b. 4 Aug 1776 - d.17 May 1863) - m. John Dyar(Dyer)
4.Benjamin Potter (b. 11 Dec 1777 - d. 25 Jan 1861)
5.Lydia Potter (b. 29 Oct 1779 - d. 13 Mar 1818) - m. William Gilliatt Jr
6.Franklin Potter (b. 28 Apr 1781 - d. 12 Jul 1851) - m. Cynthia Boise, Abigail O'Brien and Phoebe Durkee Robbins
