Norma Jean Smith, 85, of Wilkinson, passed away on January 29, 2022 at the Stuart Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast, FL. She was born on March 29, 1936 to the late Leonard and Mavern (Wickliff) Jeffries on the Jeffries "Runyon" Farm in Brandywine Township in Hancock County, IN. Norma Jean met her beloved husband, Everett "Marcus" Smith, and they were married on September 19, 1954, in front of the fireplace that they shared together for 46 of the 55 years of marriage. Together they made their home on Marcus Smith Farms outside of Willow Branch, IN. During their winter months, they migrated with other snowbirds to Holiday, FL where they met many longtime friends. Norma Jean was an active member of the Shiloh Christian Church and the Ladies Aids Group. She enjoyed playing the piano, guitar, ukulele, reading, sewing, card playing, traveling, eating out, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Patty (Richard) Hext of Belvidere, IL; Caryl (Juli) Smith of Green Valley, AZ; Marjorie (Mike) Sachinger of Palm Coast, FL; Jon (Vikki) Smith of Spanish Fork, UT; sister-in-law, Nila Jeffries of Greenfield; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marcus Smith; and brother Phillip Jeffries.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Condo & St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, 130 S. Main St., Wilkinson, Indiana 46186 with burial at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation will be before the service from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.
