Edward J. Webber, 92, died of natural causes Sunday at his home in Missoula.
He was born June 12, 1894, in Butte. He moved to Missoula with his family as an infant. he attended Hawthorne and Willard schools and the Missoula business college. He attended various schools and seminars in Iowa and other parts of the United States and became a professional flower grower, specializing in roses.
He married Golda Grover in April 1916 in Cedar Falls, Iow
In 1927, he started Garden City floral in Missoula. In 1968, the business split and he owned and operated Webber & Sons Inc. Garden City Greenhouses until he retired and sold the business in 1980. He was one of the original founders of the Montana State Florists Association and was treasurer of that organization for 29 years. He also was a past president of the Northwest Florists Association.
He was a member of the Missoula Elks Lodge, a past President of the Eagles Lodge and a member of harmony Lodge No. 49 A. F. & A. M. He was a member of the Western Montana Shrine, Bagdad Temple of the Shrine, York Rite Bodies, Western Sun Chapter No. 11 of Royal Arch Masons, Tyrean Council No. 3 of Cryptic Nations and St. Omer Commandery No. 9 Knights Templar. He also was active in many local civic organizations.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Golda, in 1965; a son, Edward E. Webber in 1985; two daughters, Ellen Rose Gravelle and Lorraine C. Lachman; and a granddaughter, Donice J. Webber.
He is survived by three daughters, Alice May Trego and Camilla Jo Lachman, both of Missoula, and Blanche Marie Smith, Seattle; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Squire Simmons & Carr Funeral Home. Officers of Harmony Lodge No. 49 A.F. & A.M. will officiate.
Private interment will follow at Missoula Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Webber, Robert Erickson, Steve Croonenberghs, Scott Karr, Orval Okken and Jim Marshall.
