James W. Crowder was born to Wiley Martin Crowder and Mary Jane Johnson; he was the 7th of eight children. His siblings included Caleb Richard Crowder, Susan E. Crowder, Delila A. "Lila" Crowder, Malissa Jane Crowder, Garland Nelson "Doc" Crowder, William "Bill" E. Crowder and John Sam Crowder. James was married to Sarah Armstrong. They both died in 1939 and had a double funeral.

Notes:

According to the research I've done on this line, which includes verbal interviews of my grandma who knew them... his wife's maiden name was Armstrong but some dispute that fact saying it was Bryant.

Also, my grandmother had told me that they had a boy and a girl: Melvin & Jennie Crowder (born 1904 and 1908) I've also ran across info that listed that they had 2 sons: Melvin Crowder (1904-1968) and James D. "Jimmie" Crowder (b. 1908). Another part of this story that my grandma had told me, was that James & Sarah were not married and had 2 children out of wedlock. At the time of her telling me this story, she was in her late 80's so she obviously had the story slightly mixed up. It was Sarah's daughter from her first marriage who had 2 boys without the benefit of marriage. Those two boys were given the last name of CROWDER and raised by Sarah and James Crowder. Sarah's daughter, Laura would go on to marry and have children with C. Ira Long.

I suppose that the real answer lies with God.
