Jerry was born on October 6, 1946, in Sterling, the son of Darold and Patricia (Willhite) Allen.
He served in the US Navy from 1966 – 1973, during the Vietnam War. He married Carolyn Shaw on December 24, 1992 at the First Baptist Church, in Sterling. Jerry enjoyed 50 years as a medical technologist, working in many locations throughout his career. He was also employed at Allen Funeral Home for many years. His hobbies included tuning and repairing pianos. He studied and taught traditional Okinawan Martial Arts, earning many black belts in each art, ultimately earning full Shihan 5th degree black belt in traditional Okinawan Karate. He volunteered at the Whiteside County Senior Center for Tuesday lunch. Jerry spent many years model railroading because it was a joy and very relaxing. The best part was the friendships made by a great group of fellow railroaders. He also enjoyed running, biking, and mountain climbing. He loved his church and time with family and friends. Jerry was a member of Crossroads Community Church, in Polo and was a member of the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter and husband; one son; two grandchildren; two brothers; one sister-in-law; one sister and husband and his special step.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mason and Edna Allen; his parents, Darold Allen and Patricia Manning; one daughter, Maria Michelle Allen; one grandson, Brady Shaw in infancy; one step son, Duane Shaw in infancy and one brother, Tim Kenney.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Avenue in Sterling with the memorial service following at 11:00 AM with Pastor Chris Bradshaw of Crossroads Community Church in Polo officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
A memorial has been established to the Home of Hope in Dixon.
