Following his high school graduation, Bud served in the United States Navy. After his military service, he graduated from Xavier University and was a 1953 graduate of Marquette University where he received his medical degree. He practiced as an orthopedic surgeon at the Kokomo Orthopedic Clinic and retired in 1990. Bud enjoyed golfing, fishing, canoeing, skiing, boating, reading encyclopedias and tending to his fruit trees. He was very active in his family's lives and loved attending their various sporting events. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo.
Survivors include his children, Karen Grothouse, Barbara (Larry) Crites, Rick Grothouse, Sharon (Steve) Butz, Susan (Steve) Perkins, and Nancy (Keith) Doucette; grandchildren, Adam, Trisha and Brian Putvin, Nick, and Leslie Grothouse, Brennan Young, Austin, Zac, Micaela Crites, Stephen, Mathew, David, Sarah Grothouse, Evan, Erica, Joey know Butz, Ashley, Brittany Stankavich, Paige, and Cooper Doucette; great-grandchildren, Becca, Drew, Sabastian, Oliver, August,Winston, Amelia, Emma Lyn, Trenton, Bennett, Alex, Carter, Carman, Zaylee, Tatenda, Franklin, Ella, Finnagan and Dylan; and son-in-law, Brad (Diane) Putvin.
In addition to his wife, LaVerne Grothouse, he was preceded in death by his parents; children, Mary Grothouse Putvin and Kurt (Georgiane) Grothouse; and granddaughter, Heather.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., Kokomo. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at the church where a Rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Contributions may be made in Bud's memory to the Howard County Literary Coalition or the Salvation Army.
