Geraldine Evon Fikes Brown was born on August 18, 1954, in Fredericksburg, Texas, to Homer and Margaret Fikes.

Geraldine became Gerry, as she did not want you to call her Geraldine, so when anyone desired her attention, using Geraldine spoke louder than a shout.

She joined her sisters Sandy and Sharon creating a trio of long-haired beauty's. Three years later a little brother, Mark Dean, arrived and added to the chaos of trouble and joy and fun, challenging their parents' skills with corn cob fights, perfumed cats, party hats, and on and on and on. A constant parade of animals: calves and cats, dogs and mice, goats and cotton-tailed bunnies; Gerry tried to save them and added children and adults to the mix as she became an adult. She loved them and they, whether animal or human, loved her. Christmas and Easter where her favorite times of the year and you would find her her hunting for Santa dolls, presents, bunnies, eggs, and crosses.

She graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1973, continuing her education at the University of Texas in Austin and completing her B.A. in education at the University of Houston.

On May 29, 1976, Gerry married her high school sweetheart, Edward Vincent Brown. Their family added Edward Jr. in September 1979, and Jenna in February 1987. Jenna married Mike (Griff) Griffin in March 2009 and in 2010 Jacob was born, then seventeen months later, Audrey. Edward Jr. married Catherine Whitcomb in 2012 and Juniper Mae delighted Gerry with her birth in 2020.

The joy of teaching reading became her passion and the students of C.D. Fulkes middle school enjoyed the fruits of her labors. She was the first to arrive and often the last to leave.

She sponsored many clubs, including a service club, Serteen, which benefited the community of Round Rock. She spent countless hours writing a grant to fund "HER" reading lab. She taught there from 1985 till 2010, retiring only because her grandbabies needed her, and she delighted in Jake, Audrey, and Juniper.

In 2005 Gerry discovered she had breast cancer. After surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, she beat cancer just like everyone know she would! However, in 2017 the Breast cancer spread to her bones. For 16 years Gerry battled this insidious disease with courage until the end of her life on earth. On January 31, 2022, Gerry left her earthly body and stepped into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, leaving behind the many friends, students, and family that were lucky enough to know her and feel her love.

Gerry is preceded in death by her father, Homer Fikes.
