Born November 11, 1938 in Monroe, JR was the son of the late Camel and Addie Cleo (Gray) Cole.
On August 11, 1973, JR married his beloved wife, the former Sandra L. Dykes in Monroe.
JR worked as a paper roller at Union Camp. He then worked as a pipefitter for DTE Energy in Monroe for 22 years from which he retired in 1998.
JR was a member of First Christian Baptist Church in Monroe, where he was baptized and volunteered his time to mow the lawn. JR was a true people person with a great sense of humor who enjoyed talking with everyone. He also enjoyed being outdoors, spending time on or near the water, boating, fishing, hunting, yardwork, and taking vacations. Most of all JR loved time spent with family.
JR is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sandy, eight loving children: April D. Cole of Monroe, Dwayne Cole of Mineral Bluff, GA, Darrelle (Debbie) Cole of Kennesaw, GA, Ramona (Chris) Rich of Prospect, KY, Tina Platte of Norwalk, OH, Deborah (Gene) Baker of Monroe, Clifford DeNoewer of Monroe, and Scott DeNoewer of Monroe, 16 cherished grandchildren and 27 treasured great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, JR was preceded in death by two children: Edward Eugene Cole and James A. "Skip" DeNoewer, three brothers: Malcolm, Orville, and Jerry Cole, and a sister Alberta "Birdie" Haynes.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161 where funeral services celebrating JR's life will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Keith Hawes, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
