After his service in the US Army, he returned to the family homestead farm in Gray County, Kansas. After the sale of the farm, he remained active in farming for several years. He worked as a mechanic in Dodge City, Kansas and continued after moving to Phoenix Arizona. After retirement, he also resided in Calhoun Mississippi before moving to Altus.
He had a love for history and always had a story to share. He enjoyed fishing and reading. He was baptized and a member of the Good Shepard Ev. Lutheran Church in Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brother Harold Byer Jr. (wife Betty) Sister- Madeline Addison (LeRoy), Wives: Minnie Reist, Betty Orndorff, Nancy Faulkner and Sherry Parker. Graveside services with full military honors will be at the Cimarron Cemetery .
