Entered into rest September 2, 2002, at University Hospital, Mr. Sam Edward Strauss of Magnolia Villa Apartments.
He was the husband of the late Mary Owens Strauss.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Cochran of Avondale Estates; son, Sam E. Strauss, Jr. of Anderson; five grandchildren, Dr. Kenneth Strauss of Brussells, Belguim, Bob Strauss of Lake Forest, Calif., Kathryn Wilcox of Rock Hill, Pamela Kirkwood of Dayton, Tenn., Dr. Barnett Cochran of Mount Vernon, Ohio and 10 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by two nieces, Patricia Mangum of Augusta, Mrs. John Kisner of Greenville and two great nephews.
Mr. Strauss was a native of Augusta, he was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from the Georgia Power Company as Vice President in Augusta. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club, Past President of the Augusta Kiwanis Club, the Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the United Way in Augusta, the Statesboro Forrest Heights Country Club and the Rotary Club of Statesboro,Ga.
Funeral services will be at the graveside at Magnolia Cemetery on Friday, September 6, 2002, at 11a.m. with Rev. C.W. Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 7p.m. at Thomas Poteet and Son.
