Vivian Mary Wilson was born July 29, 1937, in a log cabin on the river near Cannon Ball, N.D. She grew up to be a very kind and loving person, foster mother to many children and would never turn anyone away. She always made everyone feel as though they were a part of her family.

"There is always room for one more in my home and at my table," she would say.

In recent years Vivian, a former McLaughlin resident, went to live with her daughter in Waubay. Vivian died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the Coteau des Prairie Hospital in Sisseton at the age of 70.

The daughter of Barney and Louisa (Mentz) Red Tomahawk, Vivian spent her early childhood in Pierre, and attended school in Fort Yates, N.D., and Williston, N.D.

She married Lyle White and they made their home in Williston. Eight children were born to their union.

In 1970, she moved to Minnesota and while living there she married Ed Wilson. They made their home in Minneapolis until she moved to McLaughlin in 1997. She moved to Browns Valley, Minn., in 2003, and resided there until making her home with her daughter in Waubay.

Vivian also enjoyed doing crafts and beadwork.

She is survived by her husband Ed Wilson of Williston; sons, Clyde Red Tomahawk of McLaughlin, Davis Arcoren of Minnesota and Alan White of Minneapolis; daughters Lyla Johnson, Crystal Kramer and Arlene Kramer, all of Williston, June Lara of Shoreview, Minn., Verna Arcoren of Waubay, ad Lara Silvernagel of Trail City; 41 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her adopted brother, Courtney Red Horse.

Her parents, brothers Joseph, Leonard, Pete, Bernard and Francis Red Tomahawk, sisters Mary Brave, Mayme Kroneburger and Florence Grey Eagle, sons Wylie Joseph and Lyle Henry, and grandsons Curtis White and Michael Johnson preceded Vivian in death.

Funeral services for Vivian were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at a later date in the Trail City Cemetery.

Urn bearers will be Davis and Arlie Arcoren, Jason Silvernagel, Pepi Lara, Evan Denny and Michael Johnson II. Honorary bearers will be Alfred Arcoren, Jose Lara, Stan Silvernagel, Bud Day, Clyde Red Tomahawk and Jobe Red Horse.
