Mr. Doyle Mathis Johnson, Jr., age 64, of Gainesville passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1397 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30501. Dr. Stacey Cox will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Doyle was born May 29, 1951 to the late Doyle Mathis Johnson, Sr. & Alma Andrews Johnson in Greenville, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Furman University with a Theology Degree and an ordained minister. He moved to Gainesville in 1976 to work with Young Life and became the area director. Doyle married Amy in 1983 and started AD Mathis Custom Clothing in 1992. He served as a Deacon and Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years and served on the City Planning Board for over 10 years. He was a past member of the Rotary of Club of Gainesville and a member of the Fine Clothing Association for over 10 years.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Amy Cureton Johnson of Gainesville; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Johnson of Savannah and Virginia Johnson of Atlanta; sisters, Yvonne (Richard) Barr of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Judy Slea of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Doyleen (Maurice) White of Jefferson; and many nieces & nephews.
