Margaret "Peggy" Hughes passed away at age 75 on January 12, 2022, at St. Joseph Care Center in Spokane, Washington.

Peggy was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on February 18, 1946. She obtained a nursing degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. While in college, she met the love of her life, Robert "Mike" Hughes. They married on June 14, 1969, in North Platte, Nebraska. Together Peggy and Mike raised three children and enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

Peggy worked hard to help her husband develop a successful dental practice in Spokane and selflessly dedicated her free time to her family, friends, and the greater community. She passionately volunteered for and contributed to many causes and organizations within the Spokane community. Her family particularly remembers her commitment to helping all children and organizations centered around children, such as the Spokane Guilds School and St. Thomas More School.

Peggy will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind. She was the most loving and caring wife, mother, friend, grandmother and community member. She was survived by her loving husband, Mike, and her three children, Molly Hughes Lund, Abby Hughes, and Mark Hughes, her three brothers, Jim Carstensen, Tim Carstensen, and Tom Carstensen, her sister-in-law, Patty Hawkins, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind one grand-daughter, Sophia R. Lund, who brought Peggy so much joy in her final 16 years of life. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Joyce Carstensen, and her brother, Earl "Skip" Carstensen.

The world will never be the same without Peggy. Her family and loved ones will always remember Peggy for her contagious smile and laugh, her selfless spirit, her passion for taking care of others, and her love for seeking out and giving the most meaningful and perfect gifts to all. Peggy felt fulfilled in giving to others and being consistently present for those she loved throughout joyous occasions as well as times of great pain and sorrow in their lives. Those who cared for Peggy can continue to honor her legacy by trying to live their lives a little more like Peggy, every day.
