SP5 James Patrick O'Brien, Sr., 70, of Largo, Florida passed away on January 25, 2022 at his residence in Largo, Florida under the care of Hospice. He was born on December 14, 1951 in Rochester, New York to John and Anne (Hayden) O'Brien and was a retired veterans service officer for the Department of Veteran Affairs. He served in country in Vietnam during the Vietnam War as a "Combat Medic" was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Combat Medic Badge; Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal; Parachute Badge and qualified as a Marksman. He moved to the local area in 1996 from Rochester, New York.

Jim is survived by his loving family: his wife, Luella O'Brien of Largo, Florida; daughter, Dea M. (O'Brien) Heffernan and her husband, Ronan of Wesley Chapel, Florida; two sons; James P. O'Brien, Jr. and his wife, Tolu of Davidsonville, Maryland and Timothy M. O'Brien and his wife, Thuong "Tina" of Williston, Florida; a brother, Stephen O'Brien of Rochester, New York; a sister, Judy O'Brien of Greece, New York and seven grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward O'Brien.

Services are Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Veterans Funeral Home, 830 North Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida 33765 beginning at 10:00 AM for visitation and a military service in the chapel beginning at 11:00 AM. Serving as the Honor Guard will be VFW Post 7987 "MOC" and supported by the US Army Honors and Ceremonial Team from Fort Stewart, Georgia. Burial at Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines Florida will be PRIVATE. Veterans Funeral Care.
