Evelyn "Lyn" Culler Nelson Bailey was born March 20, 1949 in Columbia, South Carolina.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ellison "Early" Chambers Nelson, Jr. and Zola Evelyn Culler Nelson. Surviving are her sister, Charlotte Nelson Owen and brother-in-law, James Richard Owen, and her cousins who were like brothers and sisters to her.
After a brief illness, Lyn passed away on January 26, 2022. The family would like to thank Carolina Gardens of Lexington and Lexington Medical Center ICU for their excellent and loving care for her.
Lyn was a long-time member of Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia. She attended Dreher High School in Columbia and graduated in the Class of 1968, followed by a course of study at Midlands Tech. She worked at the SC Department of Health & Environmental Control in the EQC Lab from 1973 until retirement in 2008. Her friends at DHEC were also like family to her.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at graveside. Lyn will be available for public viewing from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Elmwood Funeral Home.
