Dennis (Denny) Doss, age 74, died of a heart attack on Sunday, Jan 23rd, 2022 in Nampa, Idaho.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Violet Oleene Doss of 48 years, his cherished children, Lora [Roy] Canonizado of Elyria, Ohio; Bill Doss of Boise, Idaho; Lisa Doss of Nampa, Idaho; his beloved grandchildren, Darleene [Jared] Reed of N. Canton, Ohio; Stephanie [Stephen] Born of Cape Coral, Florida; Shanon Canonizado of Elyria, Ohio; Danielle [Zachary] Wenzel of Cape Coral, Florida; Christopher Canonizado of Elyria, Ohio; his brothers, Jim [Sandra] Johnson of Fairfield, Montana and David Johnson [Deborah] of Wilson, Virginia.
He is preceded in death by his parents Nancy Pearl Doss and Carlis Edward Doss of Fremont, California; his brother, Kent Johnson of Fremont, California; his sisters, Carla Mills and Carol Blanc of Fairfield, Montana.
Denny was born in Richmond, California December 10th, 1947, and moved to Fremont, California in 1952. Growing up Denny loved to be in the water whether waterskiing at Clearlake, surfing at Santa Cruz, or being on the swim team at Mission San Jose High School where he graduated in 1966. Following graduation, Denny joined the Army and served in Vietnam for two years. In 1971 he met the love of his life Oleene and happily became a father to Lora and Bill. Denny and Oleene married in 1973. The family of four became a family of five with the birth of Lisa in 1975. Denny was an employee of Sonoco as a machine operator for 22 years, then worked as a warehouseman until his retirement in 2004. In 2006 Denny and Oleene retired to Nampa, Idaho where they enjoyed taking care of their new home and spending time enjoying the beautiful outdoors of Idaho.

If you were to spend any time with Denny you would know, he had a love of four things: his family, sports, his dog Rusty, and Olympia beer. Throughout his life, Denny enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and winning at the pool table. He was also a devoted 49er football, Giants baseball, and Warrior basketball fan. Denny was by nature trustworthy and honest, however, he was skilled at and enjoyed spinning tall tales for those gullible enough to fall for it, which was most of us.

Denny has been an understated source of strength and a calming force in our family, who could be counted on for love and support, or companionable silence at all times. He enjoyed meeting new people and had a knack for making friends out of acquaintances. His warm heart and bright smile brought joy to all who knew him. Many counted him as their favorite person and many of his nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved and cherished would count him as their favorite uncle.

Denny loved deeply, truly, and openly, which are traits that will be passed on for generations. Out of all the words in the English language, it seems there are not the correct ones to express the sorrow of the family nor the emptiness he has left. He is loved and missed.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise. Staging will start at 12:30 in the adjacent parking lot in the cemetery. Please try to be there at 12:30 P.M. Following the services a gathering will be held at the Doss Family Home in Nampa.
