James Allen Ball, age 71, of Lebanon, Virginia passed away Friday (January 28, 2022) in a Roanoke, Virginia hospital. Born October 23, 1950 in English, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Harry Byrd and Dorothy Marie Keene Ball. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1969 graduate of Garden High School. He had been employed as an underground coal miner for many years. He went back to college and obtained his Bachelor's degree in accounting and went to work as a CPA for Alpha Natural Resources until his retirement in 2013. He was skilled in many different trades and was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter the hour he was called upon. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Ann Ball.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Honaker Ball of the home; sons, J.B. Ball and wife, Kathy of Dobson, North Carolina and Preston Ball and wife, Crystal of Lebanon, Virginia; step-children, Brad Cook and wife, Ashlee of Lebanon, Virginia and Tonya Todd and husband, Price of Conway, South Carolina; grandchildren, Raymond Johnson, Cagney Osborne, Jessey Ball, Courtney Ball, Abigail Ball, Ella Todd, Alainna Todd, Jaxon Todd and Anna Kathryn Cook; sister, Judy Austin of Honaker, Virginia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Barry Walls of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; nieces, Lisa Wallace, Dena Walters, Sarah Mullins and Angela Walls; nephews, Chris Austin and Brandon Walls; five great-grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Cook and Rev. Larry Brooks officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Honaker Funeral Home Facebook page as well as the website.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday in the Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Austin, Robert Ball, Mark Walters, Chance Walters, Kevin Mullins, Wesley Wallace, Mike O'Quinn and Brandon Walls.
Billy Joe Keene, Barry Walls, and Lonnie McCracken will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home from 6 PM until 7 PM Tuesday.
Due to the recent surge of COVID in our area, the family has requested that a mask be worn by everyone in attendance.
