He was born on December 17th, 1951 in Frankfurt Germany to Major Quentin and Adelle Rowland.
Mark attended schools through High School
In Salem, Oregon. He then attended PLU graduating with a degree in history and a teaching credential in secondary education.
He attended Trinity Seminary getting a master's degree in Theology then was ordained in the then American Lutheran Church in 1980. He served Parishes in Southern California where he married his wife Debra. They and their 3 sons moved to Ridgecrest in 1995.
Mark then served Grace Lutheran Church until retirement in 2012. They moved to Reno to be near family in 2017.
There he continued to serve in retirement leading groups and Sunday School at Grace Reno.
Marks interest were many. First and foremost was Religion, history, reading, movies, politics and dinners with family and friends!
He is survived by his wife Debra, son Scott J. Howells, granddaughter Katelynn M. Howells, grandsons Haiden S. and Hunter A. Howells, brother James Rowland (Sandy), brother Dennie Rowland (Christine), nephew John Rowland (Jessica), niece Alyssa Newman (Sam), sister Lisa Zeiner (Tom), niece Samantha Zeiner and nephew Jackson Zeiner. sister in law Margaret Londre (Dale), niece Michelle Cerna (Andy), niece Nicole Hoey (Aaron), brother in law Dirk Geiger, nieces Sofia and Rebecca Geiger, aunt Ellenor Rowland Romano, great nieces and nephews and cousins, The Santiago Family and GLC family.
Mark is proceeded in death by his parents and sons Allen and David Howells.
There will be no more sorrow, sickness and heartaches. There will be gladness, light and joy forever.
Services will be held January 22nd, at 1:00 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ridgecrest, Ca.
Internment will follow at Desert Memorial Park.
