Mabel Catherine Bittner was born July 3, 1920 to Charles Milton and Pansy Glenn (Parrott) Bittner in rural Wadena County, Minnesota. She joined 3 older brothers and 4 older sisters . Mabel attended the local country school in Thomastown, completing the 8th grade. Her family life was that of a farming family of the 1920's and times were often hard but love abounded. Another brother was born in 1923 completing the family. Mabel was a fun loving young lady and enjoyed friendship, family and community activities. She often teamed with her sister Tracy in taking part in social events and especially loved to dance!
In 1940, Mabel married a local young man, Chester Matthews from Poplar, MN. Chester served in WWII, returned safely, but the two were divorced. In March 1947, Mabel married, for the second time, John L. "Ace" McGee, Jr. Ace was a Navy man, she found in him another who enjoyed kicking up heels in the dance hall! The couple resided in San Diego, California and in March 1962, having had no children of their own, they adopted and joyously welcomed a baby boy, John Lawrence McGee, III. Little Johnny was their pride and joy. Mabel was a hard worker and was never idle. She enjoyed people and was often in an occupation that served the public. She had a love of flowers and no home was complete without gardens and shrubs. Mabel and her family traveled back to Minnesota as often as were able. She enjoyed family immensely and gained the love of many nieces and nephews and later great nieces and nephews. She was always full of laughter and fun! She and Ace moved occasionally but she always seemed to find her way back to the San Diego area. In 1971, she and Ace divorced leaving her and Johnny on their own. Settling in El Cajon in 1990, she continued to serve the public in management of apartment buildings. In 1993 she met and married Charles Allen Taylor "Chuck", the love of her life! They briefly lived in Carson City, Nevada but again found their way back to El Cajon. Chuck passed away in September 2003. Mae became a baseball fan and loved "her" San Diego Padres! She continued to stay busy until her health started to fail. She and Johnny shared an apartment many of the last years and as her health declined, she relied on John for her care. In November, 2021 she and John were admitted to Kaiser Foundation Hospital- Zion. John passed November 25, 2021, and Mae was moved to The Shores where she received excellent care and seemed to settle into comfort.
On January 25, Mabel went to be with her Lord! She had a strong faith in everlasting life and rests now with Him.
Mabel is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, son John, parents Charles and Pansy, brothers Wesley (age 6 months), Charles (Cecelia) Bittner, William (Dixie) Bittner, Albert (Glenda) Bittner, and sisters, Lilly, Viola (Roy) Morrison, Tracy (John) Schmitt and Julia (Joe) Mertens. She will be laid to rest at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, California.

She will be forever missed and forever loved by all who knew her!
