James Matthew Elsey, 47, of Durham NC tragically died in a car accident on Thursday, April 22, 2021. He was a Florida native, born in St. Augustine and raised in Pensacola. James was preceded in death by his father, James LeRoy Elsey, of Cherry Log GA.

James was a devoted fan of Rams football regardless of their success over the years. He was passionate about music and food. His family considered him a "grill master" who delighted in sharing the results of his talents with family and friends.

Above all, James was devoted to his loving family. Surviving James are his parents, Deborah Joy and Michael Davey of Franklin NC; his three wonderful children, Elinore, James "Owen," and Emelia Elsey of Suwanee GA; his brother, David Elsey and his partner Jeannie Klebba of McCaysville GA; his niece, Mia Hester, of Graham NC; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. He also leaves several lifelong loyal friends in Pensacola.

James was a loving, creative, kind, and inquisitive person. He will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held July 30, 2021,12:30 pm at Woodlawn Cemetery. During this time family and close friends will share memories of James and play some of his favorite music.
