Richard was an Army Veteran. He served from 1963 to 1965 as a paratrooper.
In September 1963, he married Patricia and together they raised eight children. Richard was active in the St. Bernard's Parish, volunteering in the choir and coaching the kids' various sports. Papa loved his family and enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren, as they kept him young.
Preceded in death by loving wife, Patricia (Dunn) Bennett and brothers, Robert Bennett, Levy Bennett, and Charlie Bennett.
Survived by children, Richard (Sofie) Bennett, Chris Bennett, Mary Kay (Mike) Gunther, Paul (Suzie) Bennett, Molly (Kevin) Kelly, John Bennett, James (Deidre) Bennett, Erica Bennett; 12 Grandchildren.
