Paul H. "Mac" McGuire of Millerstown, age 75, joined his Heavenly Father on January 5, 2022. Born on September 28, 1946 to the late James and Gertrude (Conklin) McGuire of Kane, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mac is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Sherry (Harbold) McGuire; five children: Anita (Rick) Lowe of Landisburg, Crystal (Doug) Graham of Carlisle, Katherine Stevenson of NY, Heather "Kelly" (Nathan) Group of Landisburg, and Daniel (Beth) Toomey of Goldsboro; nine grandchildren: Brandi, Brandon, Jennifer, Sara, Colton, Kelleigh, Natalie, Kelssie and Julieann; eight great grandchildren; and three siblings: Patricia Perryman of Ridgeway, Thomas (Robin) McGuire of Mt Jewitt and John (Nancy) McGuire of Warren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley (Baker) McGuire, who died in 2005 and a granddaughter, Danielle.
Paul graduated from Kane Area High School and immediately enlisted to serve in the United States Army. He proudly served his country for 34 years, including boots-on-the-ground in Vietnam, earning the following awards and medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 campaign stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 3 Good Conduct Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Expert M14, 3 Overseas Service bars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, 2 Army Achievement Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service, Ribbon, and Combat Infantryman Badge. He humbly received the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, which recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character; displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence; served the United States Army or Marine Corps Field Artillery with selflessness; and contributed to the promotion of the Field Artillery in ways that stand out in the eyes of the recipient's seniors, subordinates and peers alike. He retired from the US Army in 1998 and began his second career as a Correction Officer with Perry County and Camp Hill Prisons. Upon his retirement from the prisons, he proudly volunteered to drive the Disabled American Veterans to their appointments.
As a gentleman who could not sit still, Mac was a member of the New Bloomfield Honor Guard, Newport Owl's Club (lifetime member), New Bloomfield Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion in Newport—former Commander, National Rifle Association, American Veterans of Carlisle, Millerstown Moose, Eargle Club, Hunters Valley Sportsmen Club, and Goldsboro Firemen's Club. He loved to spend time tinkering in the garage on his Jeep, taking care of the house and outside yard work. He enjoyed traveling back to Kane to visit his childhood home.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held on Saturday, January 15 in the newly renovated chapel of the Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home in Loysville from 10 AM to noon. At noon, Rev.
