Mary Alice Taylor Carroll, daughter of Kate and Edmond Taylor was born March 7, 1937, in Granville County, North Carolina. She departed this life on January 23, 2022, in Newark, New Jersey.
As a teenager, Mary moved to Newark where she met and married Joseph Carroll. To that union three children were born: Joseph, Derrick and Clifford Keith. Her marriage to Joseph ended in early divorce. Coincidentally in 1961, she met James R. "Ray" Carroll (no relation). They married in 1975 but they were a couple for over 60 years.
Mary worked many jobs, but her last job was at L'Oréal—Lâncome, where she worked for nearly thirty years. There she was a line operator and a shop steward for many years. Mary had many friends and was helpful to all who knew her. Her heart was pure gold.
"Tiny", as she was known, was preceded in death by her parents, Kate and Edmond; two children, Joseph and Derrick; seven sisters, Martha Williams, Sallie Brooks, Lula Carroll, Edna Ellis, Odelle Perry, Beatrice Banks and Fannie Taylor; one brother, Anderson Taylor; and one granddaughter, Tamara Franklin.
