William "Bill" Black, 70, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, at his home. Bill was born on January 23, 1951, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the son of Wilford and Mary Ann (Keller) Black. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1969 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Oklahoma. Bill worked as a medical technologist in Coalgate and Muskogee, Oklahoma. Beginning in 1981, Bill worked for Norman Regional Health System for 35 years in laboratory science. In 1974, Bill married his first wife, Cindy. They adopted their only daughter, Julie Marissa Black, in August 1979. Bill married Donna Vickery on September 22, 1984, in Norman, Oklahoma. They were happily married for thirty-seven years. They raised two daughters, Megan and Mandy Vickery, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Bill loved OU men's basketball and football, but baseball was his real passion. He pitched for Ardmore High School and later umpired community baseball games. Bill's favorite team was St. Louis Cardinals. Bill was an avid golfer, having started playing golf as a pre-teen in Ardmore and continuing to play until his death. Bill enjoyed the senior golfers at Arrowhead State Park.
In 2007, Bill and Donna purchased their Lake Eufaula house in Windsor Shores, Canadian, Oklahoma. Whether working on neighborhood projects or just stopping to talk with neighbors, Bill appreciated the time he spent in the neighborhood and the people that lived there. Bill was a member of the Eufaula First United Methodist Church and gladly served with the Methodist Men's group.
Bill spent hours on the lake with his children and grandchildren. Towing the family on tubes and boards was his passion. Singing along with Toby Keith or making his tribute to Conway Twitty was a part of every ride to the marina. Bill had a passion for travel and especially enjoyed the family trip to Hawaii.
Survivors include: his wife, Donna, of the home; daughters: Julie Marissa Black of Lawrence, KS, Megan Hawks (Joe) of Goddard, KS and Mandy Godfrey (William) of Oklahoma City, OK, and good friends, Barbara and Jerry McCormick of Canadian, OK. Bill is survived by his 6 grandchildren who he affectionately numbered as GK1 (grandkid) through GK6. They include William R., Molly, and Tucker Godfrey; Sydney, Cody and Matt Hawks.
