Ronald "Ron" J. Steele, age 74, of Linton, passed away at 10:04 pm on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Greene County General Hospital. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on January 7, 1948, the son of Raymond & Evelyn (Glenski) Steele.

He was a 1966 graduate of Loogootee High School. He worked at Crane and started his career as a railroad worker, then became a fireman and after that he became a sheet metal worker. He retired from Crane after 30+ years of service. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT for the Eastern Greene County Volunteer Fire Department where he was an instructor for firefighting classes. He was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church and the Bloomfield VFW Post #6948. He was proud of his Indian heritage from his mother"s side and always loved attending and participating with his mother in the yearly Minomin (Good Rice) wild rice harvest powwow held in August.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Janet (Felton) Steele of Linton; daughter, Martina (Jeff) Swaby of Linton; sons, William "Bill" Steele of Indianapolis and Aaron (Shawn) Steele of Elletsville; grandsons, Alden Swaby and Dylan Steele; granddaughters, Hannah Steele and Ellery (Kris) Rogers as well as his sister, Sharon Steele of Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Leanna Steele.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, with Pastor Ben Biggs officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm , and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or to the Greene County Humane Society through the funeral home.
