Mark L. Peterson, 72, of Bowbells, ND, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022, in Huntington, WV.
Mark L. Peterson was born January 27, 1949, the son of Elton E. and Carol G. (Glendahl) Peterson. He attended Bowbells Public School where he enjoyed playing sports and making lifelong memories with cousins. Mark always said, " I may have never had a brother, but Jeff Johnson came as close to that as possible." Mark graduated from Bowbells High School in 1967. He enjoyed working for farmers around the Bowbells area as he grew up. Beginning in 1967 he spent the next four years at Minot State College.
Mark married Charlene Rudland. They made their home in Belfield, ND, and together they had two daughters, Kristine and April. He worked as the manager at the elevator there for many years. In 1996, he moved back to Bowbells to help his father run Peterson's Department Store until the closing of the store.
In 1998, Mark married Maxine Kristianson. He then moved out to the farm with her where they enjoyed many activities, some of which they loved were gardening, planting trees, and just spending time together. Mark retired from the Burke County Highway Department in 2013. Mark had a beautiful, gentle soul and will be terribly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Mark was a member of the Portal Masonic Lodge for many years. His love of coffee, Chevrolets, and friends are things he held close to his heart.
His loving family includes: wife of 23 years, Maxine, daughter Kristine Lauf, step-daughter Karla (Daniel) Smith, seven grandchildren, sisters, Beth Wentworth and Kathy Peterson, one niece and two nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter April Peterson.
A service will be held in the spring of 2022. Date and times will be posted to the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home website in the future.
Burial will take place in the spring of 2022 at the Bowbells Community Cemetery.
