She was born on June 6, 1930 in Radford, Virginia and moved to Northern Virginia as a child, with her parents, the late Willet and Mattie Boyd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Dorsey "Bud" Boyd and Kelsey Boyd.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Aubrey "Bo" Rose and is survived by their three children, Pamela Umphreys, Kimberly (Joe) Hayes and Jeffrey Rose as well as eight grandchildren Andy, Shane (Sabrina), Joey (Ariel), Sheena (Wes), Christal, Jordy (Dave), Kate and Kyle and five great-grandchildren, Judy, Jason, Deacon, Mabel and Ayden.
Darlene worked for the Army Map Service and Fairfax County Public Schools, but her love of family meant raising them was her top priority. She exhausted herself in raising her children and caring for her husband and others. In addition to family she spent a lot of her time with the Dranesville Church of the Brethren, Meals on Wheels, Clothes Closet, Link and The Heart Foundation.
A viewing will be held at 10am on Friday January 28, 2022 followed immediately by a funeral service at 11am at Adams-Greene Funeral Home Herndon, Virginia. Burial will take place at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in the Town of Herndon.
In lieu of flowers; donations can be made to the Dranesville Church of the Brethren.
