GARRETTSVILLE — James W. "Jim" Kerr, 101, of Garrettsville, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2022, to be reunited again with his dear wife, Goldie.

He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Cadiz to the late Wesley and Susan Perry Kerr.

He was an World War II veteran, enlisted 1942 to 1945, in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a staff sergeant with the 339th Fighter Group and 503rd Squadron.

Jim was a carpenter by trade; he would say, "It wasn't like work because he enjoyed it so much." His projects included the construction of Blossom Music Center and Sea World, as well as many homes in the area. Jim was a humble man who never complained and always wore a smile. He often mentioned that his family and friends were his life. Jim enjoyed golfing with friends and rooting for his Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jim will be deeply missed by his children, William Kerr and Laura (Terry) McHone, with whom he resided for the past five years; grandchildren, Kelly (Sherry) Kerr, James Kerr, Carletta Kerr, Shannon (David) Norman, Corey (Carisa) Kerr, Cody Kerr, Emma Kerr and Corrie McHone; as well as four great-grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; dearest wife, Goldie; son, David; and siblings, Raymond Kerr, Richard Kerr, Virginia Kerr, Mary Kulesza and Dorothy Barholt.

Please join the family to honor Jim for a visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. The family does request that masks be worn, and social-distancing guidelines be respected. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will immediately follow at New Reformed Cemetery, 3688 state Route 305, Southington, OH 44470, where he will be buried beside his beloved Goldie.

The family would like to encourage friends to donate, in Jim's memory, to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to their friends at Serenity Hospice, to whom the family wanted to send a special thank you for their care, 4491 Darrow Road, Suite 1, Stow, Ohio 44224.
