Julia was a graduate of Jackson High School, where she played basketball. She was employed by the Kershaw County School District for thirty-seven years as a cook, retiring in 1993. She also was employed at the Kershaw County Detention Center for four years until her health began to fail.
At a young age, she became a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Lee County. Later in life, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Camden, South Carolina.
Julia was married to the late Douglas Jones, Sr. and to this union, two children, Douglas (Davida) Jones, Jr. and Dorothy (Clarence) Cole were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Jones and Francis Thomas; five brothers, Murdock Smith, Harold Smith, Jr., Willie James Smith, Mandel Smith and Leroy Smith
She loved and left to cherish two special daughters, Mary B. Pollard and Yonique Gaines both of Camden, SC; a special friend, Virgil (Fuzzy) Reynolds and a host of nieces and nephews in which she loved dearly, other relatives and friends.
