James D. Spencer Sr., age 81, was called into his Heavenly Home at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at Mercy Health – St. Rita's Medical Center. He passed peacefully with his loving family by his side.

His family's hearts are completely broken, but at peace knowing he's in Heaven rejoicing with the love of his life Virginia Hope Spencer and daughter Theresa Lynn Spencer.

Dearly loved by his family, they are so thankful God chose to share him with them. They are so thankful for such wonderful parents and grandparents and the wonderful life they provided them.

James was born March 19, 1940 in Lima, OH, to the late Clarence R. and Agnes (Walters) Spencer.

On October 31, 1961 he married the love of his life, Virginia Hope (Steele) Spencer who preceded him in death on October 25, 2017. They celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage.

James retired from the Sreco Corporation after more than 25 years of service.

He served in the National Guard for 23 years.

James enjoyed fishing, watching old westerns and his Cincinnati Reds.

He was a devoted family man who dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,

He is survived by a son, James D. (Lelanna) Spencer, Jr. of Lima; five grandchildren, Amarae Myers, Eric (Abbie) Spencer, Michael Spencer, Ashley (Zac Collins) Spencer and Hope Spencer; three great-grandchildren, Cambree Spencer, Ava Noelle Collins and Hudson Carter Collins; brother-in-law, Ed Grant, two sisters-in-law, Kate Spencer, Sue Spencer; special nephew, other son, Rex (Deb) Spencer.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Lynn Spencer; great-grandson, Carter Alan Collins; five brothers, Robert Spencer, Marion Spencer, Virgil "Butch" Spencer, Charles Spencer, Clifford Spencer; and four sisters, Eunice Rosemeier, Betty Borges, Delma "Tiny" Newland and Shirley "Sue" Grant.

Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2022, at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the VFW #1275 and the United States Army at the funeral home following the service. Pastor Gene Salsbury will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rita's Hospice, 959 W. North Street, Lima, OH 45805.
