Harold L. "Bear" Courtney, 90, of Canton, passed away at 10:39 AM on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton, IL. He was born on November 12, 1931 in Banner Township, IL to Lester T. and Edna L. (Fidler) Courtney. He married Wilma Lingenfelter on January 29, 1952 in Lewistown, IL. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2016.

Bear is also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Widger; one grandson, William Edward Allen Lidwell; two brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by five children, Rick (Sue) Courtney of Washington, IL, Donna Courtney of Breeds, IL, Carol (Zeke) Myers of Breeds, IL, Betsy (Tim) Gilmore of Canton, IL, and Bobbie Williamson of Breeds, IL; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Bear worked and retired from Caterpillar as a crane operator. He was a road commissioner for Orion Township. He enjoyed farming, working in his garage, and drinking coffee with company.

A private memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory. Lisa Cato-Crider will officiate. A burial will be held at Red School Cemetery in Breeds, IL at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Memorials may be made to Orion Township Cemetery Association/Red School Cemetery or donor's choice.
