Dr. David Wayne Robinson, 54, of Mars Hill passed away on January 25, 2022. He is the son of Shelby Robinson and the late Jerry Robinson. David was a lifelong resident of Mars Hill, living on Gabriel's Creek Road his entire life. David served as a deacon and choir director at Gabriel's Creek Baptist Church where he attended and had been a member his entire life. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by, Peyton Adams.

David had many talents and skills that he used for the glory of God. David had a gift for music, and played the guitar, the fiddle, and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice. In the mid 90's, David, Steve Garrison and Charlie Stanton formed a gospel singing group called "Homeward Bound". They traveled many miles, singing for the Glory of God, with their families by their side. He wrote many of their songs. David was a member of this gospel group for more than 20 years. David taught himself how to build and do woodworking. He would build everything from gumball machines, coffee tables, gun racks, wood buildings and cradles for his precious grandchildren.

David was a 1986 graduate of Madison High School, where he was senior class president, a football player, and a member of the FFA Band. David worked full time, went to school part time, coached, sang with "Homeward Bound", raised a family, gardens and so much more. David's education journey took him to AB Tech where he received a degree in mechanical engineering while working full time in a factory. David's love for children and math led him to Mars Hill University where he received his bachelor's in mathematics. He also achieved a master's degree, Educational Specialist Degree, and his Doctorate in education, all with highest honors. He began his teaching at Madison Middle School, with the class of 2008. He loved every student he came in contact with, but the class of 2008 held an extra special place in his heart. David has been the Principal at MHS Early College, School of Inquiry and Life Sciences at Asheville, Valley Springs Middle School and finally at Madison High School, where his heart truly was.

David began his coaching career in 1995 in youth league basketball when Ashley was six. He went on to coach T-Ball when Alex was five and Audra was six. He coached his children's teams as they grew. During his coaching he served as the Mars Hill baseball youth league President. David's love for sports and children led to him coaching in many areas. He has been the girls and boys' basketball head coach, head football coach and baseball coach at Madison Middle School. He also coached the girls JV basketball team and the baseball team at Madison High School. Every child he coached were "his kids". Coach Robinson loved all his students, players, and would always say "let's go Patriots, "let's go Duke" and "Roll Tide".

David spent several years as the Mars Hill Elementary School as the CO-PTO President alongside his wife. They established the "Make a Difference Day", dedicated to improving the school. He built doors, cabinets, painted their gym and various other tasks during this role.

David touched so many lives and there are not enough pages to truly describe the impact he had on everyone he met. He lived his life with honor, dignity, and a humble spirit. He was a man of integrity, loyalty, and faith, always striving to be the best Christian man he could be and seeing the best in others. His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and the many lives he has touched.

David is survived by his wife of 33 years, Wanda Hensley Robinson; daughters, Ashley McCall (Dee), Audra Adams (Sammy); son, Alex Robinson (Lacie); a brother, Michael Robinson; grandchildren, Harper and Easton Adams, Bentley and Titus Robinson, Levi and Noah McCall, and a granddaughter Josie, due April 4; uncles, Lawrence Robinson (Carolyn), Norman Jarrett (Mary); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Victor and Shirley Hensley; brother-in-law, Jeff Hensley (Shawnee); niece, Taylor Hensley and nephew Dylan Hensley.
