NY Index to Birth Certificates 1866-1909, Edith Goepp Abbey, born in Morris Park (now Richmond Hill) to Emily G and Hartwell Abbey.

In 1910 the family is living on Oak St. in Richmond Hill and Edythe age 5 is with her parents and older siblings Lester and Alice. Edyth was a student at PS 51 in Richmond Hill.

As reported in the Richmond Hill Record 10 Aug 1917: Edith Abbey, the twelve-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hartwell Abbey of Hamilton avenue, was drowned on Wednesday, while bathing at Northport, L. L, the home of her grandfather, Captain Charles A. Abbey. The little girl was in the water with her sister, Alice, fifteen years old, who narrowly escaped drowning while trying to save the younger girl. While the two girls were enjoying their dally bath in the harbor, Edith went beyond her depth, and cried for help. Alice hurried to her assistance and was drawn in deeper water in the struggle to save her sister.

Per interment records, Edyth died of an accidental drowning.
