She graduated from Commercial High School in Providence in 1927 as class poet. She took a two-year teacher-training course in Windsor and began her teaching career. She also attended Johnson Teacher's College and received her degree from Castleton College.
She taught in Weathersfield, Pomfret, Westminster West, Rockingham, Townshend and Grafton, as well as Redondo Beach, CA, retiring in 1974. During summer breaks, she worked as a secretary, gift shop clerk, restaurant hostess, bookkeeper and information booth attendant.
She was a member of the Happy Homemakers, the Retired Teachers Association, and an officer of the Vermont Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed traveling and had been in every state except Alaska.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Folsom of Ascutney; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, James "Ted" Cole.
