Mr. A. Owen Mercer, 92, of Frederick died Thursday, December 9 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Pauline Harner Mercer.

One of nine children, he was born April 28, 1918 in Frederick, he was a son of the late Grayson H. and Grace Grove Mercer.

Mr. Mercer was a native of Frederick and graduated from Frederick High School. He served during WWII. After serving in the army he returned home to work in the family insurance and real estate business Grayson H. Mercer & Sons with his brother G. Wilson Mercer and later in partnership with his son David H. Mercer. He retired in 1998.

Owen was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, American Legion, Scottish Rite, and Tall Cedars. He loved to spend time with his family, work in his garden and watch and listen to baseball games.

The family wants to thank Hospice, Frederick Memorial Hospital, Dr. Ali Afrookteh, and his caregivers, especially Tiffany Birks Barger, for her many years of exceptional care.

Surviving are two sons: Michael O. Mercer and wife Sally of NC, and David H. Mercer of Frederick; three grandchildren: Jason Mercer of Cumberland, Julie Mercer of Westminster and Max Mercer of NC; and one great granddaughter: Isabella Diaz of Westminster.

Mr. Mercer is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market Street, Frederick. There will be no calling or visiting at the funeral home. Services and Inurnment will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 13 at the FSK Chapel just inside the gates of Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick with Pastor Robert Driver-Bishop officiating. A reception will be held at his home afterwards for family and friends.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mr. Mercer to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Online condolences may be made at www.daileyfuneralhomes.com.
