Lora was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on June 21, 1943. Tragically, both her parents died when she was young, so Lora went to live with her brother, Bobby, and his wife Mary Jo. She grew up near Bartlesville where she was valedictorian of her High School graduating class.
Lora then moved to the Midwest City area and lived with a roommate in a house on Lockheed. She joined the First Baptist Church of Midwest City, and eventually moved into a room over the garage in the home of Bobby Taylor, secretary of First Baptist Church.
At this time, Lora worked at Franklin's clothing store and she participated in the youth program at First Baptist. There, she met Melvin Williams, a leader of the church's youth program. Melvin was an architect who designed church sanctuaries, pulpit areas of churches, and choir lofts, among other things. They fell in love and they were married on June 26, 1963 in the pastor's office at church. Two children were born from this union – Sara and Stephanie.
When Melvin's health declined due to Juvenile -Type I Diabetes, he eventually lost his job and the family moved in with Melvin's parents, Ben and Blanche Williams. Lora went to work at the American National Bank from 1966 to 1981. She then worked at the National Bureau of Collections form 1981 until after she was hospitalized for e-coli and kidney failure in 2011, when she retired. After Ben passed and Melvin passed away from complications of diabetes in 1985, Lora and Sara continued to live in the family home while Lora cared for Sara's son Christopher, as well as Blanche and Sara as their health deteriorated. Lora and Sara have remained in the family home since the passing of Blanche in 2006.
Lora worked hard her whole life but she made time for going to church and for her hobbies. She even used her hobbies as a ministry to bless other people – crocheting baby supplies, lap throws for recipients of Meals-on-Wheels, and veterans, giving hand-made cards to those folks too. She was a blessing to many of her church family who will greatly miss her.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, nine siblings, and her husband, Melvin. She is survived by her daughters, Sara Trulock of the home, and Stephanie Woolworth of Las Vegas, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She has left behind her family, her church and her Sunday School class who loved her very much. We grieve her leaving, but celebrate her home going with Jesus & her family. She will always be a witness, testimony, and example of Christ-like service and sacrifice. We are so glad she has a new body with no more pain or suffering. Now she will be rewarded for her love of Jesus, family and friends forever.
