Born in Rahway, he was raised in Carteret and graduated from Carteret High School. He also resided in Kendall Park before moving to North Brunswick 2 years ago.
Mike attended the Seminary and became Brother Mike OSM. He worked as a staff member at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica in Chicago. He was a former Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph Church in Carteret. He also worked at McGraw Hill as a Sales representative, was an organist at St. Brigid church in Peapack-Gladstone before becoming the organist and choir director at Blessed Sacrament Church in Martinsville.
He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas J. and Margaret M. Burns, and two nieces, Susan and Lauren Burns.
Surviving is his partner and best friend Danny Ng; five brothers, Thomas Burns of Toms River, Robert Burns of Edison, William Burns of Deland, FL, John Burns of Toms River, and James Burns of East Brunswick; five nieces and 6 nephews.
The Funeral will take place on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 9:45 am at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt.27), Metuchen followed by a 10:15 am Funeral Mass at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen.
Interment will be in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
