Wanda was the daughter of Erastus Tharpe and Pauline Ratterree Tharpe. She was educated in the Houston County School System. She was formerly employed with the Coffee Cup in Perry, Georgia. She later was employed with the Kellwood Company in Perry, Georgia as a Seamstress for a number of years. She then was employed with Briggs & Stratton in Perry, Georgia as a Lock Technician. In 1995, she started her own business as a professional clown for 20 years, performing at parties, picnics and parades. She endured a long-extended battle with breast cancer with strong will and determination to never give up.
She was married to William "Wayne" Coleman for 50 years. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Jana Tharpe Beavers and Susan Tharpe Wise and 1 brother, Chuck "Peanut" Tharpe.
