Robert P. Bauer, 71, Bismarck, left this earth surrounded by his family Jan. 25, 2022, after a short illness at Sanford Health, Bismarck.

Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Robert was born to Aloysius and Anna Marie (Vogel) Bauer on September 3, 1950, on the Memorial Bridge enroute to St. Alexius Hospital.

He was raised on a farm in Oliver County speaking only German until age seven at which time they moved to Bismarck. Here, he would learn English.

He attended Bismarck High School and joined the U.S. Army Infantry Special Forces in August 1969 with honorable discharge in March 1971. With his time served in Korea, he experienced complications from Agent Orange later in life.

Robert married the love of his life, Susan K. Boehm, on September 1, 1972, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan.

Together, they raised three children: Sheri, Robert and Mathias.

Together, they enjoyed traveling.

Robert established Bauer Construction Company in Bismarck in April 1976 and maintained ownership until time of death.

Robert's hobbies included camping, fishing, hunting, meat processing, cooking, dancing and playing cards. If you knew him, you would know he enjoyed having a beer. He was always teaching. He taught his family that they could do anything. He was a social butterfly who enjoyed time with family and friends.

Robert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan; daughter, Sheri (Mark) Sayler; sons, Robert (Elizabeth) Bauer, Williston, and Mathias (Shelby) Bauer; grandchildren, Morgan (Edwin) Birrenkott, Bryce Sayler (Alyssa), Rylan and Keaton Bauer, Ella and Jaden Bauer; great-grandchildren: Bentley, Makenna, and Clayton Birrenkott; brothers, Edwin, California, Joseph, Montana, Calvin (Nancy), Williston; sisters, Isabelle Ferderer and Linda Hurt, Nevada; brother-in-law, Kasper Kraft, New Salem; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Bauer, Geraldine (Dave) Kath, Nevada, Patricia Stein, Joan Boehm, and Sheila Boehm.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Anna Marie Bauer; infant daughter; parents-in-law, Mathias F. and Emma (Barth) Boehm; sister, Cecilia Van Geldern; brothers, Mathias, Daniel, Celestine and Herman; sisters-in-law, Bea Bauer, California, Dorothy Bauer, Montana, and Donna Kraft, New Salem; brothers-in-law, Pete Ferderer, Fritz Van Geldern, Nevada, John Hurt, Nevada, Mathias R. Boehm, Ernest J. Boehm and William D. Boehm.
