Leora Ann Baxter Melton (82) was born in Boise, Idaho on December 27, 1939 and lived in Arco until moving to Blackfoot in 1943. She attended schools in Snake River and Blackfoot.

Leora loved life, people, her church and the Lord. Her favorite music was singing praise to God in hymns and singing in choirs at church each Sunday. She was especially blessed to be able to sing in choirs with husband, Ron and sister, Sherrie.

She was married to the love of her life, Ronald Andrew Melton on July 14, 1959 and they were married for over 62 years. Whatever they went through, they went through together and were often inseparable. They are parents of three wonderful children, Susan Leora Williams (Howard), Richard Allen Melton (Lisa), and Nancy Denise Melton. They have two grandchildren, Steven Andrew Williams (Larie), and Rebecca Ann Mendez (Vicente), and three great-grandchildren, Mason, Carter and Rowen Williams. She is survived by two sisters, Sherrie K. Henman (Don) and Kathy Van Eps and one brother, Arron (Eddy) Baxter. She was preceded in death by parents John Samuel and Frieda Leora Madsen Baxter. She deeply loved her family and loved being near them. Each one was her "favorite".

Ron and Leora lived in Blackfoot for all of their married life. Ron worked for the U.S. Postal Service and Leora was a stay-at-home mom until Nancy started school. She went to work as an aide in the resource room, helping children with special needs learn how to read and learn math skills. She loved every kid she worked with and made friends with teachers and parents. She worked for 14 years in various schools and contributed much to the many people she worked with.

She loved serving at First Baptist Church, now known as Blackfoot Christian Fellowship. She served in almost every area as a deaconess, teacher, serving in the church kitchen, on the board for American Baptist Women, and for many years with Ron as a janitor at the church until the time of her death. She truly enjoyed serving as a Sunday School teacher for the Jr. High and Sr. High school students – one of the highlights of her life

She was always ready to give a smile and a hug and tell you how special you are. She sincerely enjoyed being with people and sharing a chat, a meal or a cup of tea.

She loved looking at cookbooks and baking sweet treats. She was also an avid quilter and if she wasn't buying fabric, going to quilt club, looking at quilt magazines or making any number of quilts to give away, she was helping someone learn how to quilt. She was a very generous gift giver and friend.

Her greatest desire would be that each one of us would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as she did. God sent His only Son to pay the price for her sin so that she could have a relationship with Him. She accepted His gift of salvation by His death on the cross and resurrection. Jesus worked through her to do more good in this world than she ever could have dreamed! She never wanted to stop praising Him, and now she is in the arms of her Savior. In death, life is changed, not ended.

A memorial service will be held at Blackfoot Christian Fellowship on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 11:00am then a graveside service will be held at Grove City Cemetery, followed by lunch at the church. For those not able to attend the service in person, it will be livestreamed on Blackfoot Fellowship's Facebook page. Visit https://blackfootfellowship.org/ for the link.

Donations may be made in her name to Blackfoot Christian Fellowship, 2550 Rose Road, Blackfoot, or please reach out to someone who needs a hug, a smile, or a compliment.

The name Leora is a form of Eleanor. In Hebrew this means "bright light", and this she was.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished. As a family we would like to thank each person who has communicated their condolences and shared their memories of her, reminding each of us what a privilege and blessing it was to call her friend, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. As she would have said, "This life has been Wonnnnderful!"
