Carolyn was born on February 15, 1933 in Elmira, NY and was the daughter of John R. and Gertrude (Holleran) Garey.
She was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy, Class of 1951. She attended nursing school but decided to be a homemaker, taking care of her children.
Carolyn married Edwin J. Carpenter, Jr. on August 20, 1963 in St. Michael's Church in Penn Yann, NY.
She was employed by several local businesses but retired from Corning, Inc. as an office supply clerk.
Carolyn enjoyed volunteering for many organizations, but Corning hospital was her favorite—she did so for more than 40 years. The Republican Party was also another one of her passions; she was even asked to be in a television commercial with Congressman Tom Reed. She also enjoyed cooking and avidly collected cookbooks to try new recipes.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn aka Bitsie (Matt Davies) Carpenter of Denver, CO; son, Edwin J. Carpenter, III of Corning; sister, Joanie Ramsay of Elmira; and several nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Mitzie, and brother, Jack.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at a later date. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Corning.
