Marilyn J. Smith, 90, of Saint Marys, died 8:44 A.M. Monday, January 24, 2022, at Vancrest of Saint Marys.

She was born September 26, 1931, in Saint Marys, the daughter of Ernest and Martha (Post) Mertz.

She married Paul Smith on November 3, 1951; he survives in Saint Marys.

She is also survived by her two sons: Page (Carly) Smith of Helotes, Texas; Jay (Kristy) Smith of Rockwall, Texas, and by her 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings: Dan Mertz; Wendel Mertz; Jeannette Arnold; Richard Mertz.

Marilyn was a 1949 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. She served in the US Womens' Army Corps and later graduated from Wright State University in Dayton. She retired from Coldwater High School, where she served as an English teacher for many years.

Marilyn enjoyed reading, gardening and taking care of pets. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.



Funeral rites will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 28, 2022, at the First Baptist Church 101 South Wayne Street, Saint Marys, Pastor Keith Stuck, officiant. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to the Reverend Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
