Obituary for Robert Hazen Dean

Robert Hazen Dean, 89, of North Ridgeville passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 19, 2022 surrounded by loved ones in his home that he and his wife share with their daughter Leslie and her husband Shane. He was born February 9, 1932 in South Point, OH to Alice Mann Dean and John Hazen Dean.

He served in the United States Air Force from February 1951 until February 1955 and was stationed in Germany for close to three years. After being discharged he attended Ohio University for two years.

After moving back to Elyria, Ohio he worked at Western Automatic before starting his career with Elyria Savings and Trust. His career with Elyria Savings and Trust started in 1960 as a teller at the Avon Lake branch. He worked his way to head of bookkeeping and then into Human Resources. He retired from First Merit Bank as senior VP of Human Resources in 1995.

He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Elyria before becoming an active member of Christ Church in Elyria. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol, with their second home being in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida.

Bob loved golfing, ice cream, pecan pie and his dogs. He loved his family dearly and is survived by his wife Carol Ann Dean; children, Janice Dean (Denise), Laura Slager (Tim), Brad Dean and Leslie Obitts (Shane), grandchildren, Morgan Obitts, Andy Slager, Shelby Obitts, Maggie Obitts, Stone Dean, Hazen Dean and Noley Dean, great-grandchildren, Mars Hazen Dean.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Sellers, his grandson, Tip Hazen Obitts and his parents, John Hazen Dean and Alice Mann Dean.

He will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elyria.
