William Ronald Lucas, Sr., 85, of Asheboro, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Alpine Health and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Oaklawn Cemetery, with Rev. Gary Mason and Pastor Fred Huffstetler officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Ronald was born on September 16, 1936, to the late Paul and Mamie Boone Lucas. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Ronald graduated from Seagrove High School in 1954 and went to High Point College where he played JV Basketball and earned his Bachelor's Degree. He later earned his Master's Degree from A&T State University in 1979. Ronald taught Physical Education for 37 years and coached for over 30 years for Asheboro Junior High and South Asheboro Middle School for golf, football and track. He also coached for over 15 years for Asheboro City Parks and Recreation for the Trogdon Tigers Little League Baseball Team and the Youth Basketball Program. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Talley Lucas.

He is survived by his sons, William Ronald Lucas and wife Julie, Stephen Talley Lucas, Michael Darren Lucas and wife Allison; grandchildren, Ryan P. Lucas and wife Whitney, Brittney L. Shaffer and husband Brian, Morganne L. Bowman and husband Jesse, Jordan Tally Lucas; great grandchildren, Lillyanna Shaffer, and Dawson Shaffer.

Ronald will lie in repose from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Ridge Funeral Home.
