Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 11 AM., in Johnson Funeral Chapel, Thief River Falls, MN.

Burial will be at the Rindal Lutheran Cemetery, rural Viking, MN., following lunch.

Dale Clifford Johnson, was born August 12, 1942, in Thief River Falls, MN., to Clifford and Ruth (Engebretson) Johnson. He grew up on the family farm, in rural Newfolden, MN. He graduated from Newfolden High School, in 1960, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, in 1964. He was primarily stationed in Iceland, and served until 1968. Following his service, he attended college at UND and graduated in 1971. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

In June of 1971, he met Annette May Erickson, and they were married on November 13, of the same year. They traveled throughout Minnesota for their first two years of marriage, while he worked road construction. In January of 1974, with the birth of Mark, they decided to settle down and return to the family farm. He worked in Thief River Falls, at Tireland, and then Hydra-Mac, as a machinist. In 1977, he started dairy farming, and in 1980, he left working in town, to farm full-time. He and Annette, milked cows until 1997, when changes to the dairy farming industry, made it too hard for a small farm to survive. In July of 1998, he started working at Arctic Cat, and worked there for 13 years, until his retirement. In August of 2021, he and Annette moved from their home on the farm to Puposky, MN., to live right across the road from his son, Mark. In November, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Dale's world was farming, hunting, fishing, and his family. He also loved his years of Wednesday night card games with friends, feeding the wild birds, squirrels, and turkeys, and watching football and baseball. He always said in life, you only get one good dog and one good horse, and he had his, Jake and Silver. Deer season was his favorite time of the year, and in the past few years, seeing his grandsons compete for the biggest buck was better than eating venison chops! He loved driving to Maple Lake and fishing for sunnies off the dock and fishing with the family on Big Lake and Lake Julia, in Bemidji. But mostly, his grandkids were the light of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Annette; son, Mark (Kathy) Johnson of Puposky, MN., daughter, Susan (Tim) McCabe of Owatonna, MN.; his grandchildren: Riley Miller, William, Benjamin, Matthew, Finn, and Ava Johnson, and Zachary and Allison McCabe; great-granddaughter, Allisyn Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Barbara.
