Fred graduated from Adamson High School in 1941, and served in the United States Air Force in WWII, stationed in Alaska. He received a Bachelors of Science in Education from SMU, and a Masters of Science in Secondary Education from North Texas State University. He received a Fulbright scholarship to Spain in 1961. He taught Spanish and English in the Dallas area from 1951 to 1975, retiring from Sunset High School in 1975. He was an associate professor at Southwest Texas State University from 1976 to 1978.
Preceded in death by his parents William F. Sallis, Sr., William P. and Helen Sallis Cheney; brothers James M. Sallis and Edwin L. Sallis; nephew Daniel S. Sallis; and granddaughter Paige Chapman.
He is survived by daughter Anita Purcell of Terrell, TX, and son-in-law and daughter Larry and Valentina Phipps of Garland, TX. Also survived by seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, Fred was a devout Christian who had many friends who along with his family mourn his passing and cherish his memory.
