Lloyd William Neal, 96, Passed away peacefully, January 17, 2022, at the Legacy House in South Jordan, Utah after a long and wonderful time he had on this earth and he is now rejoicing being reunited with his Love & Eternal Companion, Donna Janzen Neal.
Lloyd's earthly adventure began June 25, 1925, in Wheeler, Arkansas. He was born to Toy Christopher Neal and Bertha Alva Luper Neal.
His adventures of childhood with his big brother James Delbert, would rival those adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. He wrote in his life story about his childhood antics saying, "When it came to mischief, I suppose we would rank near the top of the heap"! He loved fishing, swimming, hunting and competing with his brother.
As the world changed in late 1930's & 40's, the Neal family sought jobs to support their family and in 1941 they moved to Bremerton Washington. It was there in high school chorus class where Lloyd met the love of his life, Donna Janzen. As World War two broke out, Lloyd eventually joined the Navy and during a leave before being shipped overseas, he and Donna were married in the Salt Lake Temple
Lloyd had a supernal musical talent, a voice of the angels and such love for music, He lived his life to the fullest being kind and helpful to others and especially his family. He shared the love of the Savior through his talents and was such a wonderful example of how to live gospel principles for all his friends, neighbors and family. He served in many church callings which included Music Chorister, Ward/Stake Choir Director, Sunday School and Primary Teacher, Priesthood Instructor and Pianist, Temple Ordinance Worker, Tabernacle Choir member and his favorite, a Temple Sealer. He and his wife Donna received and served their Mission Call to the Manila Temple in the Philippines Everyone he met commented that he had such a wonderful calming peaceful spirit. He was so multitalented in many things. He loved sports, especially playing tennis, a fabulous ping pong player, and a multi hole in one golfer.
His love of Music began early in his life because of his mother Bertha Alba Neal encouragement and quote," She insured my love for music". He attended the University of Utah and earned his Master's Degree in Music. Many who heard Lloyd Sing said that he sounded and looked like Bing Crosby however, his voice was much more refined. He turned his love of music to service by singing praises to the Lord in Singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 32 years and was an assistant conductor under Jerry Ottley. He and his loving wife Donna traveled the world with the choir taking the message of the gospel to many Lands. He sang for presidents, kings, and in many foreign countries.
Lloyd's vocation was that of a music teacher. Teaching voice, band, orchestra, drama, speech and math. Worked and lived in Nephi for a while, then moved back to the Salt Lake valley to teach in the Granite School district. He was a tough teacher, because he had such love for excellence. He also served as the Deseret Male Chorus as Director and played in a dance band to help meet the needs of his family of six children and his spouse. He played a mean bass fiddle.
Lloyd is survived by four children: Kathy (Don) Cole, Dr. Steven (Susan) Neal, Diane (Matthew) Timothy, Barbara Homewood. Nineteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, five great- great- grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Donna Janzen Neal, his father and mother, Toy and Bertha Neal, his father and mother-in-law, Frederick & Nellie Janzen, his brother James Delbert Neal, his son Richard Neal, and son David Neal.
