Obituary for Eva Mae Smith

Eva Mae Smith, 93, went to be with the Lord she loved on December 31, 2021. She was born May 6, 1928, on a farm in Dundee Township, to Herman and Eva (Goldenstein) Radtke. Eva graduated from Dundee High School and was employed by the Elgin National Watch Co., McGraw Edison Co., and Sherman Hospital, where she was secretary and manager of the Pathology Dept. for many years, retiring in 1974.

Eva took great interest and delight in family member's activities and accomplishments. She was a faithful and supportive wife to Wilber Smith for 70 years, prior to his passing in 2019. Eva was active in Grace Evangelical Church, 1800 Bowes Rd., Elgin, as a founding member, Sunday school teacher, fellowship chair and choir member for 30 years before moving to Peoria, AZ in 1990.

Surviving are her sisters; Anna Huxtable and Nancy (James) Danielek, along with many nieces, nephews and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband; Wilber Smith, brother: John Radtke, sister, Louise Gabler, brother ln laws, Joseph Gabler and LeRoy Huxtable; sister in laws: Lois and Gaye Ann Radtke.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 29 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Timothy Chinn officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Evangelical Church, Elgin.
