Elsie Matilda Johnson went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 1, 2021. Elsie was born in Chardon, Ohio on March 14, 1924 to James and Mary Piras. Her family moved to Thompson, Ohio, where she graduated high school at 17 years old and immediately went to work in downtown Cleveland at Monmouth Company. She remained there until she met Al in 1949 and were quickly married that same year. She moved to Toledo with Al and started a family. Al and Elsie raised three children on Elmhurst Road, where she lived for nearly 65 years. Elsie lost Al in 1993 and continued to live at the home they built together until 2017. Elsie was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, staying in touch through the years as best she could since she had no immediate family in the Toledo area. Elsie loved to cook, garden, read and do word puzzles. Her family never turned down a meal made by her. In addition, Elsie loved to travel and visited Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, the Mediterranean, and her personal favorite, Las Vegas.

Left to cherish Elsie's memories are her children, Jerry, Janet (Gary) Showalter of Strongsville, Ohio and Jane (widow of James) Johnson of Trenton, Michigan; six grandchildren, Kristen Johnson of Tucson, AZ, Brittany Johnson of Old Town, ME, Melinda Johnson of Twinsburg, Allan Showalter of Worthington, Megan Hoover of Cleveland, and Eric Johnson of Southgate, MI; as well as six great grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Al, in 1993 and her son, Jim, in 2007.

The family will receive guests Monday, October 11, 2021 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Ottawa Hills Cemetery.
